MAIN STAGE LINEUP:
AMERICAN AQUARIUM (8pm)
For nearly a decade, American Aquarium has spent the majority of their days on the road, burning through a sprawl of highways during the day and playing hours of raw, rootsy rock & roll at night. American Aquarium’s songs, filled with biographical lyrics about last calls, lost love and long horizons, have always explored both sides of that divide. For every drunken night at the bar, there’s a hangover in the morning. For every new relationship, there’s the chance of a broken heart. It’s that kind of honesty — that sort of balance — that makes the band’s newest album, Wolves, their strongest release to date.
TOUBAB KREWE (7pm)
Toubab Krewe, the vibrant Asheville, NC-based instrumental powerhouse creates a sonic Pangaea that lustily swirls together rock, African traditions, jam sensibilities, international folk strains and more. While nearly impossible to put into any box, it takes only a few moments to realize in a very palpable way that one is face-to-face with a true original who recognizes no borders in a march towards a muscular, original, globally switched-on sound.
To me, Fences represents the journey of the last two years. It is the discovery of a group voice, the willingness to explore collaboration between old friends, and an openness to let new voices into the fold. It is something I am proud to have been a part of and am excited to share with the world. To me, it is an example of the power and positivity of collaboration, of a group of human beings working diligently on a shared vision. If nothing else, I can say that we tried as hard as we possibly could. I can’t wait to do it again. -James Phillips/Bombadil
LONNIE WALKER (5pm)
Originally a one-man band, Lonnie Walker evolved from the solo spirit of Brian Corum into a collection of friends bound by their shared passion for music and visual art. After years of honing their sound while playing house shows and DIY spaces in Greenville, NC, Lonnie Walker garnered local support from classmates and peers immediately. The additions of Eric Hill, Justin Flythe, Raymond Finn, and Josh Bridgers birthed a sound much more unconventional. Now signed to Raleigh’s Terpsikhore Records, their blend of rootsy americana and dance-party punk has only just started to find traction outside of their home state.
REBEKAH TODD & THE ODYSSEY (4pm)
Currently based in Wilmington, North Carolina, Rebekah is a gifted performer with a natural, soulful, and effortless voice and two releases under her belt, releasing her debut EP, Forget Me Not, in 2011, first LP, Roots Bury Deep, in 2014 and most recent full length, ‘Crooked Lines’ in February, 2017! Playing over 170 gigs in just 12 short months, her band Rebekah Todd & The Odyssey won the On The Rise series for FloydFest 2016 and are set to play the mainstage in 2017 alongside acts such as St. Paul & The Broken Bones, Shovels and Rope, and Turkuaz.
DARK WATER RISING (3pm)
Dark Water Rising explores all themes of life, whether it is love, heartbreak, sacrifice, celebration, despair, or pain; all the while expressing their sentiment on issues affecting Native American communities. Dark Water Rising coined the genre of their music as “Rocky Soul”, which is about as original as the songs that they create.
HANK, PATTIE & THE CURRENT (2pm)
Raleigh, NC’s original soulful bluegrass band.
GHOSTT BLLONDE (1pm)
Lovably insouciant, Ghostt Bllonde is a 50’s rumble of trash-can-pop.
